Another chance.

My body aches.

But it’s a good ache. I can’t remember the last time I took a yoga class. It took everything in me to survive the class. It wasn’t really intense. By definition, hatha yoga is gentle yoga. I really made an effort to listen to my body though – as to not push it. Having a history of playing hard, whether it’s a tough game of soccer or spiking the ball at a family picnic, being quiet and bringing awareness to the sensations of inactivity felt next to impossible.

Thankfully, the instructor reminded us to breathe.

Years of having children via c-section, nursing, a breast reduction, then neglecting my body proper nutrition has lead to weight gain and a belly that COMPLETELY interferes with yoga practice. Keeping proper alignment and finding a good stretch can be mighty difficult.

Today I gave myself another chance. I walked into a class, knowing I would be the fattest girl there (in my baggy t-shirt among tiny figures and racer-back tanks), and I made the decision to accept myself for that 75 minutes.

And that’s where I’m starting.

Acceptance.
