Day 42 | 100 Days of Self Care

IMG_9465Good news: I’m about 92% back to normal. Almost there. Bad news: My
littlest one has not bounced back at all. What looked like a bounce back was actually an illusion. She’s going in the other direction again. We lost a whole day to question and ruling out possibilities.

Today’s Self Care Stats:

  • Chalk drawings
  • 20 minutes of normalcy with my girl

How I felt

Today’s self care was provided by two things: sidewalk chalk and fever meds. This gave us 20 minutes of the spark she normally carries, which included insisting hopscotch was OK – especially if they are made out of hearts.

Take away point

Just from our journey through different parts of the healthcare field today:

  • It’s possible to go an entire day and still have a “viral – maybe.” answer.
  • Yes, you may be bothering the person answering the phone if you use more than 7 words to answer “what are the symptoms?”
  • You will bother the same person when you show up for your appointment.
  • It is possible to have a 10 minute face-to-face interaction with someone and have them NOT make eye contact. Not even once.
  • It’s possible some don’t understand: Not only does your family very rarely get sick, but it may be the first time in their healthcare facility and you might need to know where the hell you’re going.
  • A door jam does not equal a waiting room.
  • Some call centers lack basic phone skills (and reception?).
  • I may need to create a class for this.
  • Also this: There are a few shiny-shining rockstars who completely kick ass at what they do. Thank GOD for you.
